The Children of Lir / Clann Lir

This is one of the Three Sorrows of Irish Storytelling, alongside the tales of Deirdre and the Sons of Tuireann. It's one of the best known and best loved stories in Irish mythology.

The Children of Lir is a story I loved as a child. It's the story of four children turned into swans by a jealous stepmother, cursed to spend nine hundred years on Ireland's waters. Even now, when I see swans flying overhead, I think of them.
