Wren, King of the Birds
This piece connects to Lá an Dreoilín, Wren Day, still marked in parts of Ireland every St. Stephen's Day.
The wren is one of the smallest birds in Ireland, and somehow also its king. I love that contradiction, it's a lovely bit of Irish folklore that feeds into Wren Day. The story goes that the birds held a contest to see who could fly highest, and the wren won by trickery rather than strength.
There's more about all of that and more over on my blog.
