Bodhrán

I used to think the bodhrán was ancient, but it's only a few generations old. That actually disappointed me at first, until I watched a documentary on its history and came round to it.

Learning to play it myself, even briefly, showed me something else too, how important your hand is in the sound, shifting the tone depending on where and how it pushes on the skin of the drum. That's what the line art on the drum captures.

More on both over on the blog.
